    Dear Student,

"There is no progress toward ultimate freedom without transformation, and this is the key issue in all lives" B.K.S. Iyengar

    Spring into Yoga!

Spring has happily arrived and with it brings renewed energy and inspiration. Our spring Yoga Challenge begins on April 1. It is a way to challenge yourself and grow within your practice.  Come to as many classes as you can during the month of April - come twice a day if you'd like! All of our teachers are here to support you and cheer you on while you embark on this journey.

Spring time is the perfect time to cleanse both mind and body.  Yoga's twisting poses help in removing the toxins from the liver and the intestines and the back bends open up your body to energetically welcome the Spring.

The second limb of Yoga, Niyama, emphasizes cleansing the body and mind of stress caused by unfulfilled desires. Five Niyamas are cleanliness, contentment, Tapas or practice of strict discipline to improve a certain area of your life, Self study and finally to Surrender to the higher self or Universal intelligence.

Practicing Asanas, Pranayama and the other limbs of Yoga one can definitely still the mind and bring more clarity in the thought process.

We thank all our teachers and the front desk staff for their contribution towards sharing the timeless teachings of Yoga.

May this spring bring new possibilities to revitalize you.

    Namaste

    Beauty of Iyengar Yoga

Precision and alignment of Iyengar Yoga not only create beautiful artistic poses but also help in protection of our joints, muscles and tissue. Correct alignment creates a balance and poise that energizes the entire body and the mind.

Great genius of Guruji was to teach the poses that would transcend the physical body and create positive changes in mind and intelligence to finally connect us with the Anandamaya kosa or the inner bliss that is the core of our being.

In the language of Yoga our being is enveloped in 5 layers or Kosas:

Annamaya       - our gross body             - physical layer
Pranamaya      - our life force                 - energy body
    Manomaya       - our mind(emotions)      - mental body
Vigyanamaya   - thoughts (decisions)     -intelligence body
Anandamaya   - joy, happiness               - bliss body (subtlest layer)

In his book Light On Life Guruji states: "We live within our individual consciousness with its limited intelligence, often feeling lonely and puny, when there is a conduit available directly to consciousness and intelligence. Through this conduit flows prana, joining each individual among us to the highest original principle of Nature. Pranayama is about restoring this conduit so that the intelligence bearing the energy of the macrocosm can illuminate our microcosm."

The journey logically must start with correct alignment of the gross body and gradually reach to pinnacle of Ananda(Bliss).
