    Intro to Yoga

        Is the idea of being in a yoga class intimidating? If you are looking for a more gradual, in-depth introduction to Yoga with similar newcomers, then our Intro to Yoga workshop may be just what you need. This two-hour, registered event is perfect for people new to the practice of yoga. Topics include basic alignment, the use of props and why Yoga is ideally suited to people of all ages and abilities. After taking this workshop you will be confident to take Level 1 classes. This workshop runs monthly at one of The Yoga Studio South locations.

    This registered class is ideal for those beginning their yoga journey and who live in a plus size body.

    Postures are explored in a slower manner to discover the importance of proper alignment and to allow time for a deeper understanding of the practice. Additional aspects of yoga, such as breath awareness will also be introduced. While weight issues will not be a focus of the class, questions and discussion about yoga and weight management are encouraged.

     Renew your practice with a healthy dose of inspiration.

     

    We would like to thank Ty Chandler for an amazing workshop and all the yogis who attended to make it a very successful and fun workshop.  Ty's dynamic teaching and energetic pace was an inspiration for all of us. 

     

    Last year Ty focussed on the shoulders and gave us many tips on bringing more mobility and opening in the shoulder joint, while this year we learnt a lot about the hips. Also another big thank you to Ty for the beautiful chants and the music with us.

     

    She shared an ancient Sanskrit proverb which said "Constant practice is the source of joy".

     

    We at the Yoga Studio South are grateful to all our teachers for sharing their light of Yoga. It is with the light of Yoga we can avoid the pain which is yet to come, as stated in Yoga Sutra II:16.

    We are very happy to announce a full weekend workshop with Jaki Nett at the Yoga Studio South. This is her first ever trip to Calgary.
     
    Jaki is Senior Iyengar yoga instructor. She is an Iyengar Certification Assessor and is also on the staff of the teachers training program at the Iyengar Institute of San Francisco.
     
    She has spent many years in India studying with her mentors Guruji B.K.S. Iyengar and Gita Iyengar. Jaki is a very accomplished teacher. She is very present in her teaching style and accessible in her personality. 
     
    She melds her knowledge of Yoga, functional anatomy, design and movement into a methodical teaching style. 
     
    She has written articles for the Yoga Journal on female issues, has authored a book on female incontinence and gives workshops on pelvic floor and incontinence in the USA and through out Europe.
     
    One year of Iyengar yoga exprience recommended.

    Backbends workshop with Rob Feb 24
    Backbend with Rob Walker

    Improve your posture and open your heart chakra with this workshop for everyone. Move from the easiest prone backbends to more complex poses in a safe and cautious way, with modifications for all levels.

    Family Yoga brings the whole family together to have lots of fun and laughter through Yoga.  Family yoga classes are a great opportunity to forget the to-do list and simply enjoy each other in a stress-free playful environment. Activities include fun asanas, breathing exercises, relaxation, partner poses between parent and child. Johanna Steinfeld brings to the Yoga Studio her extensive experience teaching children and sharing her love of yoga.
