    Introdcution to Yoga
    lntoduction to Yoga with Lynne Swenson
     
        Is the idea of being in a yoga class intimidating? If you are looking for a more gradual, in-depth introduction to Yoga with similar newcomers, then our Intro to Yoga workshop may be just what you need. This two-hour, registered event is perfect for people new to the practice of yoga. Topics include basic alignment, the use of props and why Yoga is ideally suited to people of all ages and abilities. After taking this workshop you will be confident to take Level 1 classes. This workshop runs monthly at one of The Yoga Studio South locations.

    Learn how to positively transform the experience of chronic pain with gentle asana, breathwork, and meditation. Reconnect with your body's inner wisdom while reducing stress and enhancing self compassion. Bring a notebook for personal reflections. **This workshop is not suitable for those with acute conditions

    Beginner Iyengar Yoga for Plus size people
    with
    Jo Ann Tefler

    This registered class is ideal for those beginning their yoga journey and who live in a plus size body.

    Postures are explored in a slower manner to discover the importance of proper alignment and to allow time for a deeper understanding of the practice. Additional aspects of yoga, such as breath awareness will also be introduced. While weight issues will not be a focus of the class, questions and discussion about yoga and weight management are encouraged.

    Dr. Jo Ann Telfer is a registered psychologist who specializes in Bariatric Psychology. In this class she merges her deep understanding of the complexities of obesity, weight management with the gifts of yoga.

    We would like to thank all the yogis, our Guruji BKS Iyengar, our mentors Margot Kitchen, Rob Walker and the friends of Yoga Studio South for your guidance and support in making 2012 a great year for us.

     

    We also would like to thank our staff and teachers who are easily the best in the city for sharing their love and passion for Yoga and enriching the lives of all the yoga students.

     

    May the new year be a prosperous one, full of joy and peace. Interestingly it is the peace that leads to happiness and joy, in the Yoga Sutras sage Patanjali describes Yoga as a process of quietening the waves our mind.

     

    May all of us discover more happiness for ourselves in the coming year, by not just renewing the year, but also by renewing ourselves.

    We are very excited once again to welcome TY to the Yoga Studio South.  She will be joining us on Jan 25, 2013.
     
    Another chance to work with Ty Chandler, one of Victoria's most sought-after Iyengar Yoga teachers. 
    Known for her strong, precise teaching and her warm, encouraging style, she blends physically demanding asana work with clear verbal instruction, yet allows her students to stay connected to their own experience.

    Ty teaches internationally, in Costa Rica, Hong Kong and Singapore and in her home city of Victoria.

    Suggested experience: One year of Iyengar Yoga and the ability to hold headstand and shoulderstand for three minutes.

    Introduction to raw foods, their benefits to your health and happiness, and how you can incorporate more raw foods into your diet.
    Learn how to make a number of delicious, quick and easy raw meals.... Bring your appetite, we will be preparing and tasting a number of yummy dishes!  

    Benefits of Raw Food diet  

    The raw food diet includes fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

    Raw food promotes health because the food's enzymes remain active while the water content and oxygen in foods is preserved.  A raw food diet also helps to increase the body's alkalinity and can encourage weight loss, if needed. All raw food is healthy so the more you eat, the less room you have to eat junk.

     

    Yoga is a connection of mind, body and spirit.  A raw food diet helps to provide maximal nutrients and minimal energy needed for digestion which ultimately helps to lead to a clearer mind.

His passion for the raw foods was a natural progression from his vegan diet, which led to discovering a love for feeling pure, healthy and energetic through a consumption of delicious, fresh and eco-friendly raw foods".
