    Going to the source - in yoga journey

    His visit will be a great opportunity for all of us to experience Guruji B.K.S Iyengar's teachings directly from one of Guruji's most senior teachers. 

    His instructions are clear, firm and insightful. He comes across as a confident, warm and powerful teacher who has a great gift to gently guide us beyond our perceived limitations.

      

    He has been regularly invited to the UK, US, Europe, Mexico and UAE to conduct workshops for both teachers and students. Jawahar teaches classes in Mumbai where he is a director of the Iyengar Yoga Institute and is also a trustee of the Light on Yoga Research Trust (LOY).    

     

    We are grateful to Margot Kitchen for making this spectacular event possible in Calgary.

    Kirtan : Kirtan is the practice of singing and repeating the divine name in the song. The word kirtan comes from the ancient language of Sanskrit root "kirt" which means "to communicate, to celebrate, to praise." Kirtan is a devotional practice and is categorized as pratyahara (methods which draw the mind inward). Kirtan can be seen as a bridge between our outer and inner selves.

    Concentration on different names or meanings of the names sung, increases the focus. For some, finding out the translation and meaning of the names enhances concentration and devotion, while others prefer to dwell on the Sound itself. Rhythm carries the energy of the kirtan; when the group-(listeners and musicians) is in sync, kirtan is enhanced and the atmosphere becomes charged with spiritual energy.
